In honor of our new president I went out and read his second book and I have to say it was pretty damned good. I truly, truly believe that every American should read this book. Whether you supported Obama in the election or not, he’s our president now. In this book he lays down a complete plan for what he would change about America if he had the chance and now he does. We should all know what he had in mind.
I was found the Politics chapter, in which he describes what it’s like to be a politician, completely riveting. Did you know that to run one week of advertising in the city of Chicago alone costs more than half a million dollars? If it seems like politicians always have their hand out, it’s because they do. Because they have to if they want to run an even half way competent campaign.
Additionally, Obama’s grasp on economy and forgien relations was, and is, uncanny. You have to remeber he wrote this book in 2005, but the probable future that he lays out in it is almost exactly what has happened. He did give some room for the former administration to do the right thing and pull our economy and overseas involment out of the tail spin that we were, at the time, headed in, but they didn’t and he laid out the future for that as well.
Barak Obama truly is a brillant man and this book makes me all the more happy that he is our president. I know that he’s been handed a pretty big mess and therefore, probably will not get to inact all of the grand plans he lays out in this book, but I love the fact that he has these plans, that he wants to do far more than what is expected of him.
