I had a hard time getting through this interview. I don’t necessarily think that cleansing is a bad thing once in a great while and I certainly wouldn’t say that adding fresh (low sugar) juicesĀ to a regular diet is a bad thing, but I’ve noticed from following Julia’s blog that she has a dangerous pattern of binging then cleansing. That’s no better then binging and purging (in fact when Julia mentioned a while back that she has a history with bulimia, it made a lot of sense to me).
Also, I don’t think these women are the best spokespeople for raw foodies or cleansing. First of all, they look unhealthy. Both of them have clavicles you could hurt yourself on and my wrist is bigger around then the one in the middle’s arm. That’s not healthy! Being underweight is just as bad for the body as being overweight. Secondly, they kept contradicting themselves. First they say that the health editors that Julia talked to are wrong and misinformed then they say that they wont deny the science that those editors base their opinions on. First they say that the Master Cleanse is bull then they back track that it’s actually good for people in certain circumstances. On one hand they say that your body can’t digest more than one type of food at once, on the other they claim that your body will adjust to what you eat. If anything they came off as the uninformed, uneducated ones.
From my studies of nutrition (and I’m not saying I have it all figured out. I certainly have as many bad habits as the next person, but I have read up and informed myself.) I can tell you this much: Cutting out major food groups is never good. Raw food can be healthy if you make sure to keep your protein and calorie intake up. Your body needs protein for cell regeneration and maintenance. You need it for your muscles, skin, nails and hair. Calories are the energy that keeps your body moving. You need fiber. I swear to you, you need it. It keeps your body in check digestion-wise as well as reducing your blood cholesterol and risk of heart disease and stroke. Food combining is not supported by medical science. Your body does multiple things at any one time very well. You can breath and move at the same time, you can think and your heart pumps at the same time, you can chew and listen to the person sitting across from you. Digestion is no different. Our bodies are the ultimate multitaskers.
If Julia happens to read this, you seem like a complete doll. I really enjoy following your blog. This post is not meant to be a personal slam on you at all. I have noticed from following your blog that you seem to have some serious issues with food and body image. You should really think about talking to a pro about these issues. You deserve it. You are a lovely, smart, fun person and you deserve to feel good about yourself.
And one more tiny rant not related to Blue Print, cleansing or Julia Allison. Mogulus sucks! It made getting through that video even harder. At about an hour long and it took me nearly an hour and a half to watch it. It skips, breaks up and stops periodically for no real reason. Also, it’s ridiculously hard to move back and forth through the video. Am I the only one who had these problems?
Rants over… for now.
