Tales from the phone bank
My current favorite call from phone banking at the Democratic Party was with a lovely septuagenarian woman named Connie. Connie is an enthusiastic Obama supporter and was very upset that she couldn’t volunteer this year. Her husband is very sick and, of course, she needed to stay with him. Still, when in what spare she calls her friends and neighbors to talk about the election and sparks discussions in the grocery store where she invites people to come over to her house to continue talking. Connie’s dedication to politics even her time of difficulty was truly, truly touching. I actually had to get off the phones for a minute.
