My name is Laura and I live in Arizona.

When I first wrote about National Park(ing) Day on my Face book I said I didn’t really understand the concept, but I’ve done a little research and found that it was started by an “interdisciplinary collaborative group of artists, designers and activists” from San Francisco called REBAR to call attention to the need for public, green space in privatized areas. Great idea, but I’m not so sure Tucson is the best city to push it in. There are already several park-type areas in downtown Tucson and many of the “parks” (like the one photographed above) were directly in front of them. It sort of diluted the message.
