I just finished “I Was Told There’d Be Cake” by Sloane Crosley. It’s a great set of dry, witty, real essays. The one that really hit me was The Ursula Cookie when she talks about hiding in the bathroom at her first post-collegiate job. I understand that,hell, I’ve done that. You’d be surprised how comforting cold tile and steel can feel when you don’t have anywhere else to go. I didn’t, however, make a cookie of my boss’ face though. I guess that’s why she has a book of essays and I don’t.
